Why We Need The MPC?

Try to imagine:

You are pregnant. Your face has not yet healed from the last time your husband beat you. He has told you over and over that if you ever call the police or try to leave he will kill you. You have decided you must leave to save your life and the life of your child. You need to get an Order of Protection and an Attorney. Where do you turn?

Try to imagine:

English is not your first language. You and your children have been in a domestic violence shelter for three months. You are ready to begin a new life free of violence. While you were in the shelter your batterer destroyed all of your belongings including your identification and immigration papers. You and your children have no place to live, no clothing, or money. What do you do now?

Try to imagine:

You are a senior citizen and confined to a wheelchair. You own a home and want to remain independent. One of your children has moved in with you to help you, but they are addicted to drugs and demand all of your money. When you refuse they beat you. Who can help you?

Try to imagine:

You are in a same-sex relationship. Your partner is abusive. When you've attempted to leave they threaten to 'out' you at your job and to your parents. Your abuser has isolated you and you have no friends or family to turn to. What do you do?
